Dear Parents & Students,

Tuesday grades K, 1, and 2 spent the day at the Montshire Museum with hands-on science experiences. This trip was made possible by the generosity of our School Club. Thank you to School Club for giving us this experience, which helps students to make learning connections with the science they have at school.

This is the last week for food service. Thank you for supporting this program. Maureen has fed us well, as usual, this year. Please remember to feed your children breakfast every day next week. On Monday, School Club will provide lunch. On Tues and Wed, please send snack, lunch and water bottles or a drink. We will not be providing milk next week.

Sixth grade Graduation is next Tuesday at 6:30PM. Not only will we be saying goodbye to our thirteen wonderful sixth graders but to many parents whose youngest child is graduating from TES. A special thank you to France and Nacy, as well as other parent volunteers. France Morrow and Nacy Winrich have held offices in the School Club and have always volunteered above and beyond the call of duty. There are many things we wouldn't be able to accomplish without School Club volunteers!

This summer I will be sending all of you a letter entitled “Summer Notes”. In it you will find the details you will need to know about the start of our new school year. Until then, remember that reading every day with your child is the most important skill you can nurture. Thank you for all of your support and participation this year. Please feel free to call the school anytime. Heidi and I will be checking messages regularly and will return your call as soon as possible. Have a wonderful, safe summer!

 Sincerely,

Deborah M. Leggott, Principal

Summer vacation learning:

•  Help your child appreciate musical styles. Tune into a classical station, and encourage your children to move to the music. Then switch to Jazz. When you are finished, talk to your children about how the music made them feel.

•  Take your child to a story hour at the local library or to a local bookstore. Check out an educational video from the local library. Watch it together and talk about it.

•  Go to the beach or river and collect things. Take these found objects home and help your children to make art projects out of them. Have an art show!

•  Buy some seeds. Ask your child to keep a plant journal, and do the same thing yourself as you watch the plants grow. Compare your observations.

•  Go outside at night and look at the stars. Help your child pick out constellations.

•  Check out museums, historical societies and similar sites in the community.
