EL's Keewaydin Reflections
#2. The things I will remember is; the staff, getting to swim in lake Dunmore, catching frogs, getting to hold snapping turtles being a hopper, Mount Mooslamoo, hiking up to general look out, people in my cabin, rock climbing, night walk, doing the skits, the Hobo cookout, all the investigations that the staff did with my study group and I, and people in my study group.

#1 . The investigation I really liked; is when my study group leader Josh took us to the Abinaki village. First my study group played two games the first game we stood in a circle one person got blind folded, that person was the deer stood in the middle; the rest of us were hunters. The hunter would try to sneak up and try to tap the deer without getting caught if the deer pointed to us we would have to go back to where we started and try again, and again. The person who taps the deer without getting caught that person then becomes the deer; and the deer then becomes a hunter. The second game there were two teams it was girls against boys. The team that was up they would stand in a line side by side but spread out away from each other. Each person has a spear in their hand the target was a backpack. Josh counted to three and we would throw the spears and try to hit the backpack the first team to ten would win, but they would have to win by two. The girls ended up winning. Then my study group leader finally took us to the Abinaki village. I liked that investigation because we got to learn how to make a fire without matches the way Abinakis did. How they made fires is they had a bow, a piece of wood with a hemisphere cut out on the edge, a piece of birch bark, and a rock. Then you would wrap the wood with a the strings on the bow, next you place the bow and the wood where the hemisphere is and hold the rock on top so the wood stays in place, then you start rubbing the bow and the wood against the flat piece of wood, and it makes a fire. I also liked it because we all got to try it!

#3. I thought being with my study group was really fun. I liked when the whole camp got together and we did our little skits. My study group did The Stump Community . Someone was the stump everybody else was insects that lived din the stump, but the insects got into a big fight everybody was just arguing about who got to live in the stump; Andy the ant came up with an Idea g ask Steve the stump who he to live inside me, and he said I think you should all live him; so we all did we all had a party, and we were all happy until Ben the bear came along and ate us. So Steve the stump was lonely again. I also liked investigations that the instructors did with us. I liked collecting wood for the hobo cook out everybody in my group got ground beef except for me! The skit was probaly my favorite thing to do with my study group.

#4. Something I did for the first time is talk about how bad wasting food is. After every meal Katlyn would measure how much food the whole camp wasted. MY table Was waste free the whole week. We did not have to eat the stuff that was not put on to our plate, just the stuff that was put onto our plate .I liked doing because I got to learn that if you waste food you are really just wasting money, because people have to buy the food that you eat; so if you waste the food you are wasting money. |

I liked it at KEEC a lot and studying community. Community is an important
thing. Community is a group of organisms working together (to survive).
We had are own little Town meeting where Steve Waters came in (Alec)
one of the staff. We were talking about putting a dam on the property.
Everybody got paired up with each other; we also got assigned a topic
Kori and I got sports. We voted to not put it in the dam because it
would affect our hunting areas. the yeses won so we put in the dam.
but all together it impacted really well. |
